Does VV work in Mail, Slack, Cursor and Notes?
Yes. VV types wherever the cursor is. There are no plugins. If you can type in an app, you can dictate into it.
Is my voice uploaded?
Not for standard dictation. Recognition runs on your Mac. Audio stays in local history until you delete it. A Transform only leaves the machine if you point that Transform at a cloud provider you configure.
Do I need an account?
No. Download, grant Microphone and Accessibility, hold the shortcut, speak. Billing is only if you choose Pro.
Is there a free plan?
Yes. Free is 5,000 words a week, on-device, no card required.
Does it work on Windows or iPhone?
Not yet. VV is Mac-only. Apple Silicon is the supported path. We would rather ship one excellent Mac app than a thin copy everywhere.
How is this different from Apple Dictation?
Apple Dictation transcribes what you said, including the ums and the false starts. VV is built to write what you meant, with vocabulary, snippets, an overlay, and history you can replay. See the comparison page.
How is this different from Wispr Flow?
Wispr Flow is a cloud product across Mac, Windows and phones. VV keeps standard dictation on your Mac, does not require an account, and is priced in pounds with a lifetime option. Read VV vs Wispr Flow.
What microphone do I need?
The built-in Mac microphone is enough. A mic closer to your mouth helps in noisy rooms. Bluetooth earbuds compress audio and often clip the first syllable — we would skip AirPods for dictation.
